but of seeking after honor also, and the desire of vain praise, which pass away with this world.
     The place gives little defense if the spirit of fervor is lacking, neither will that peace long continue which is sought abroad.  If the state of your heart is destitute of a true foundation, that is, unless you stand steadfast in Me, you may change but not better yourself.  For when occasion arises and is laid hold of, you will find what you fled from, and more also.

                                       A Prayer for Heavenly Wisdom

     Confirm me, Lord, by the grace of Your Holy Spirit.†  Grant me that power that strengthens the inner man,† and empties the heart of all useless anxiety and distress.† Let me not to be drawn away with desires of anything whatever, whether mean or precious, but to look on all things as passing away, and on myself as about to pass away with them.  For nothing under the sun will long survive, “all... [is] meaningless, a chasing after the wind”.† Oh, how wise is he who so considers them!
     Grant me, Lord, heavenly wisdom, that I may learn above all things to seek and to find You, above all things to relish and to love You, and to
